Kalankhodzhaev Botir Abdunabievich

He began his professional career in 1990 at the Republican Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital, where he mastered the basics of ophthalmology and performed thousands of successful surgeries.

In 1998, he founded the Uzbek-American Ophthalmological Clinic "CRYSTAL," which focused on the latest advances in microsurgery at the time. He was the first in the Republic of Uzbekistan to master and implement small-incision technology in cataract surgery—ultrasonic phacoemulsification and mechanical phacofragmentation.

In 2002, he established a system for supplying donor corneas from US eye banks, the first in the post-Soviet region, thereby reviving corneal transplantation in Uzbekistan.

In 2005, he performed the first donor corneal endothelial transplantation (DSAEK) in the Central Asian region.

He was the first in Uzbekistan to perform optical reconstructive surgery for angle-closure glaucoma with lens block by removing the crystalline lens and intraoperatively restoring the anatomical and topographic structures of the anterior segment of the eye.

He is certified to perform accommodating, toric, multifocal, and phakic intraocular lens implants, as well as various types of donor corneal transplants.

In 2020, he was the first in Central Asia to perform the so-called Descemet's membrane transplant (DMEK) through a 2.2 mm incision!
